“Water Walking” Retreat
from Sue Fitzgerald

Are you ready to “Come to the Edge”? Or perhaps you’d like to “Walk on Water.” This retreat is based on the book, If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat! by John Ortberg. This book and our AB Women’s theme for 2007-09, really go hand in hand.

Bonita Warrick of Indian Creek Baptist who attended our first retreat summed it up this way: “God is calling us to walk with Him and to Him. Sometimes we would rather ‘stay in the boat’ and be comfortable. Because we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we can step out (out of the boat) in faith and do something extraordinary for Him.”

Patti Seth of Warren, PA and I have had the pleasure of facilitating this retreat with the women of Monongahela Assoc. and First Baptist, Dover, DE. Even though we were both “rookies” at leading retreats, through the grace of God and the prayers of our prayer team, the women have responded favorably to our presentation.

One of the highlights of the retreat for many of the ladies has been the DVD testimony of Mark Hall of “Casting Crowns,” a Grammy Award winning Christian singing group. Mark wrote the song, “Voice of Truth,” as a result of God’s call on his life to get past his limitations and failures and allow God’s power to work through him. The first verse is based on Matthew 14:22-32, Peter’s water-walking experience.

As is often the case, the teacher often learns more than the student. After our last retreat on Feb. 2 in Dover, I came away challenged by a scripture that God had led me to share that day: Joshua 1:6-9. As I was emphasizing that we are to be “strong and courageous” (repeated 4 times in that chapter), verse 9 stood out regarding our study of God’s Word: “…Study it DAY and NIGHT and make sure that you obey everything written in it.." (TEV). Even though I was blessed to have been able to read through the Bible in 2007, I know I haven’t spent enough time studying God’s Word. God challenged me to truly meditate on it DAY and NIGHT, even on my busier days!

Patti and I would love to come to your area to share our thoughts on “Water Walking.” The Ethel Wheeler Enrichment (E.W.E.) Fund pays our travel expenses. You are only responsible for our housing and meals at the retreat site. Contact Myra Goss, Coordinator of E.W.E., for further details. Phone 570-297-2651 or Email: email: myragoss@epix.net
