- Approximately 800,000 to 900,000 victims annually are trafficked across international borders worldwide.
- Between 18,000 and 20,000 of those victims are trafficked into the U.S.
- The majority of those victims are women and girls.
AB Women's Ministries is sponsoring a national mission project.
- The monetary goal is $250,000, to be raised in 2007 - 2009. Ten percent of the received funds will be used for the project's promotion and administration. The remainder will be used 50% nationally and 50% internationally, distributed by AB Women's Ministries to new American Baptist-related ministries that address the sexual exploitation of women and children.
- The Pa & De AB Women's Ministries is raising funds for the Break the Chains national mission project. Contribute through your association AB Women's Ministries treasurer, or make donations payable to "ABWMOPAD" and mail to Anna Lee Earnest, Treasurer; 10 Fisher Hollow Road, Amity, PA 15311.
- Funds received during the first year of Break the Chains (mid-2007 to mid-2008) will help fund five new ministries
- In Thailand , the New Life Center in Chiang Mai will educate 50 at-risk girls and women, and provide rehabilitation services to 15 victims of abuse and trafficking.
- In Costa Rica , the Mansion of Light Baptist Church will add a Family Life Center to provide programming and a safe place for at-risk children in the community
- In the Philippines , the Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches will begin an outreach ministry to girls who prostitute themselves in the beach communities of Iloilo, and will construct a new building and provide staff and programming for this new ministry.
- In Sioux Falls, South Dakota, First Baptist Church began a residential ministry named Elizabeth's House for young women at risk of exploitation. Practical training resources and a model for outreach ministry based on the church's experience will be developed to encourage others to start outreach ministries to women-at-risk.
- In Los Angeles, California , Night Light USA is a new ministry that will offer outreach and support ministries to women in the sex industry who are trafficked or exploited.
- Interested American Baptist organizations or individuals may request grant criteria from AB Women's Ministries and submit grant proposals by April 30, 2008 to apply for funds received during the second year of the Break the Chains project.
